What is Team?
Center Stage Studio Competition Dance and Musical Theater Teams
Here at CSS we pride ourselves on the community we have created, often winning win best sportsmanship at competitions. We teach our students to be kind and supportive of each other, other studios and themselves. Self esteem and friendships are very important to the studio. At the beginning of the season everyone is assigned a buddy for the season, our older students mentoring our littles. We want our kids to leave the studio as someone to look up to.
CSS team members are offered professional level training from our in house staff as well as the many master classes that are offered throughout the season.

What is Team?

We have two types of teams at CSS. Dance and Musical Theater. During our 23/24 season we had 6 musical theater teams and over 20 dance teams. Our dance teams cover a wide range of styles including jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, tap, and musical theater dance. The Center Stage Studio also has an elite dance program called the BEAT.
What is a Musical Theater team?
Each team learns a three to ten minute routine. These routines include live singing and dancing. At the competition performers will be in full costume and make-up! Last season one of our youngest teams learned a song from The Little Mermaid, they each had solos and got to dress up like Ariel’s sisters! Another team got to be “The Little Rascals”! Our older advanced teams learn longer review style numbers to compete at MTCA and other advanced competitions.
Is every kid right for team?
Nope. Our team members are the kids who love being in the studio and just can’t get enough! Kids who beg to go to every camp and do every show. We have every level of team members, from very beginner to our most advanced dancers in our BEAT program. You do not need any prior team or dance experience.
What is the weekly time commitment?
Each team member is required to take a jazz, tap, ballet, acting and vocal class. These classes are in addition to their weekly team practice. That is the basic requirement however, all other classes are included in your tuition.

What is the Season commitment?
Classes start August 26th. You will receive the schedule for competitions in September.
Each Performer is required to be at every competition. Depending on what teams they are on determines how many competitions they will attend. Our musical theater teams went to 4 competitions and our elite dance teams went to 6+ conventions.
During our 22/23 season our first competition was in Las Vegas the last weekend in January and our last was the last weekend of April. Some of our Elite teams will be going to Nationals in July!

We will also be having parties, recitals and special events that will include:
End of Summer party in August
Holiday community events
Performing at a sporting event (Last year we performed on the court at before a clippers game)
Showcase at the beginning of January
End of season Recital/Banquet
What does a competition weekend look like?
Depends! We will receive the competition schedule up to 7 days in advance. Each performer's schedule will vary. If your child is on one team they will need to be at competition only one day, arriving two hours before their team is scheduled to perform. If your child is on six teams and is doing five solos you will be there all day every day. for the 24/25 season we anticipate competitions being in Las Vegas, San Diego , Long Beach and Anaheim.
Examples
Glinda’s MT team is scheduled to perform on Saturday at 3pm. She will need to be there at 1pm to get ready and warm up with her team. Then after her performance you are welcome to go get some food but come back for awards that range between 8 and 10 at night.
Annie is on two musical theater teams, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, dance solo, two vocal solos and a monologue. She can plan on being at the venue Friday night to Sunday afternoon.

How to join team?

If you think your child would love to join our CSS Team family they will need to audition. Auditions are held throughout the summer depending on skill level. Every child will need to prepare a short song to sing and monologue. When you sign up to audition you will be sent an audition packet to fully prepare your child. We try to make it a fun and relaxed environment. The audition is low stress and used to get to know your child and their potential. We know teams can be overwhelming the first year! If you would like more information or have any questions please email the Director of teams Michelle at CSSdirectorMichelle@gmail.com or text her at 949-619-5657.
